Hello from Peaks…
I would like to start by saying a massive HELLO from all of us at Peaks Edge! We are the sixth branch to open within the Early Years Care and Education family.
After a busy summer of getting set up, and hosting numerous open days, we opened our doors at the beginning of September and have had a great term welcoming families into our lovely new setting. We have a growing staff team that are dedicated to ensuring children and families have a positive start to their education journey.
The Festival of Light
November saw the end of the spooky season, and the beginning of the sparkly season! At Peaks Edge we’ve had a jam-packed full month that started with the celebration of Diwali. The Pre-School room made some wonderfully colourful diya lamps that the children took home to their families. The vibrant colours of Diwali merged perfectly into the bright colours of fireworks and our celebrations of Bonfire night. The Baby and Toddler rooms enjoyed lots of messy play with silly soap and powder paints. Pre-School made some chocolate sparklers, and in the evenings, as it was going dark, we would look out of the windows into the night sky hoping to spot some fireworks being set off.
Remembrance Day out in our community
We have been very keen over our first few months to get out and about in the local area. We have had trips to the park, the soft play area at Crystal Peaks, and scavenger hunts looking for different modes of transport. To mark the occasion of Remembrance, our Pre-School children had a walk to St Marys church in Beighton to add our poppy wreath to the collection already gathered from the service on Sunday. We also had a trip in to Crystal Peaks where we saw a display for remembrance too.
Staying active with Super Star Sports, & Kidslingo
This month we have welcomed both Super Star Sports, and Kidslingo, into the setting for extracurricular activities for the children. During the Super Star Sports session we enjoyed getting active; to warm up we did some running between cones, we then did some dribbling drills with the footballs, before finishing with a game of ‘Simon Says’. Later we talked about the effect of exercise on our bodies, and we thought about other ways we can stay active. During the Kidslingo session the children learnt some simple Spanish words like Hello – Hola, & Goodbye – Adios. We also enjoyed dancing to the nursery rhymes sung in Spanish, and we tried our best to join in singing ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. They ended the session with a parachute game.
Children in Need – our first fundraiser!
We would like to send thanks to all of those who joined in with the events over the week, and for all the kind donations! We raised a great £62.90 which we were extremely proud of! The children enjoyed lots of Pudsey-related activities, and we all enjoyed the bake sale that took place in the latter end of the week!
Toothbrushing – oral health
Pre-School have introduced a toothbrushing club to their daily routine this month! All the children have been keen to take part and learn about oral health. Did you know that cases of preventable tooth decay that lead to tooth extraction are one of the most common hospital procedures for children aged 6-10 years? For more information about oral health follow the link:

We also have a oral health parent pack available for our families to borrow, to see what more you can do to support your child’s oral health.
Stepping into Christmas
Finally, Christmas is approaching! I know it’s only the end of November, and some may think it’s a little early to talk about Christmas… not here at Peaks Edge! We are strong believers in if something makes you happy, and adds a little magic to your life, then you should make the most of it! The season was all kicked off with a little snow; it really ignited our Christmas spirit! Babies really enjoyed exploring the white stuff, and when it got a little too cold outside, we brought the fun and the snow inside with us! The Toddler room have grown a Christmas tree, and the Pre-School are busy learning some Christmas songs ready for the stay and play workshop we have planned for parents in December!
