Stepping into Summer at Peaks Edge!

“Children are very happy and settled and enjoy their time at the setting”.

I cannot tell you how delighted we are to share the feedback from our first Ofsted inspection !

At the beginning of the month, just 9 months after opening, we received the exciting call to say we would have our first full Ofsted inspection the following day. The hard work that all our team have put in over the last few months was clear on the day, and we are very happy with the feedback we received. Well done to all of the team at Peaks Edge, and thank you to our families who very kindly provided feedback for the inspector on the day.

Activities and exercise

This month we have welcomed visits from Rhythm Time, Superstar Sports, Cryo Sports and Mini Athletics. The children in each room have enjoyed the activities they have taken part in. Once the staff have observed by joining in the sessions they then take aspects of each of them and incorporate it into the planned activities for the children throughout the month.

Keeping cool in the heat – sun safety

We have had a couple of warm spells this month, and we are looking at yet another period of hot weather over the coming weeks! It is expected that children arrive at nursery with sun cream applied ready for the day. Throughout the day we will then top up the sun cream regularly, utilising our ‘Suncream Station’ in the entrance hall! We do appreciate that some mornings can be a little busier than others, so we will check in with parents on arrival to ensure children are prepared and ready to be protected from the sun.

We have been exploring many ways to cool down in the hot weather; we suggest loose fitting clothing, including a sun hat of course, and luckily the children love water play! Our outdoor areas have shaded areas throughout the day and we may, on occasion, alter the routine to avoid being outside at the hottest point of the day. We have also tried to prioritise hydration; we have added different fruits to the water dispensers to experiment with different tastes and encouraged the children to drink more throughout their sessions!

What is school ready?

During the summer term, a phrase you hear a lot in Early Years is “school ready”, but what does it mean? As a setting, we pride ourselves on preparing children for the next stage of their development. Supporting children through their journey with us, and for their onward journey to reception, and beyond. We believe that the early stages of a child’s education are so important; what we do in this time is the foundation for all their future learning, and this is a theme that is ingrained in our curriculum.

The prime areas of learning underpin all aspects of development, this is why we work hard every day to ensure our children have a good level of development across these areas. We hope that when the children leave us to go to reception they can talk about their feelings, make positive choices, have the confidence to talk to others, ask questions and share ideas. We also focus on their independence in their own personal care, such as eating and hygiene. We hope that by securing development in these areas children can then begin to delve deeper in to all areas of learning.

We are very excited for our upcoming graduation for our school leavers and wish them all so much luck and happiness for their future!
