Join us for January at Peaks Edge Day Nursery

Bringing in the New Year with a Bang!

What an eventful month we’ve had to start 2026…

Baby Room have had lots of fun this month exploring a range of sensory activities. A firm favourite is the foil blanket with various accompaniments. They saw in the new year with a glowstick party! Throughout the month, we have spent lots of time getting to know our new babies, securing those bonds with our key children, and promoting positive relationships amongst them. We have thoroughly enjoyed group times in the Baby Room, learning familiar songs, and embedding that in our everyday practice.

On a similar note, the Toddler Room have been enjoying lots of carpet time activities; a favourite has been “What’s in the Box?” When the children see the box coming, their eyes light up with excitement, as they make their way to the carpet to join in the fun.

RSPB’s Big School Birdwatch

The Pre-School children have taken part in the Big School Birdwatch this month. They got together with their binoculars and charts, to look for different birds that may visit our nursery garden. We talked about what the birds might look for in the garden, and how we can promote wildlife in the local area. The children then took some time in the craft area to make their own binoculars to take home.

¡Extra! ¡Extra! ¡Últimas noticias!

In addition to our existing extra-curricular activities (Rhythm Time, Super Star Sports, Cryo Sports & Leanimals), this term we have welcomed Kidslingo!! Carmen, the class leader, is a fluent native Spanish speaker. She makes the classes full of energy and fun! Each session, the children learn new words and phrases! There are many benefits to learning a language within the early stages of life, including cognitive development, easier acquisition, improved communication, cultural awareness and empathy, practicality and confidence building.

Feel the roar of our pride

Finally, January has seen the beginning of our fundraising for the Pride of Yorkshire. This year, Sheffield Children’s Hospital celebrates its 150th anniversary! Yorkshire’s streets, parks and public spaces will be filled with art, creativity and community spirit, as the sculpture trail will see 150 life size lions, and 150 lion cubs, spread across the county. Our first fundraiser for the year was our Crazy Hair Day! Thank-you to all who took part, and donated for this event! Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming events; the fun will continue throughout the term. All our 7 settings are working together as a team to raise as much money as possible for this amazing cause.

That’s all from Peaks Edge for now, but we’ll be back soon to fill you in on another of our fun-packed months!
