At Riverview Day Nursery, the children have been enjoying a wonderful range of activities inspired by storytelling and the changing autumn season. They have been listening to, and sharing stories, using their imaginations to bring characters and events to life through role play, discussion and creative activities. During our walks around the local area, the children have been exploring, collecting a variety of autumnal resources, such as colourful leaves, conkers, sticks and pine cones. These natural resources have provided lots of opportunities for sensory exploration, counting, sorting & talking about the changes they can see in the environment. Our outdoor adventures have encouraged the children to be curious, active and confident as they explore nature and discover autumn together.
Autumn stories & imaginative play

The Pre-School children have been enjoying joining in with the storytelling of “Stick Man”; confidently joining in with familiar words, actions and repeated phrases. They extended their learning by creating their own stick men, using a variety of natural and craft materials, developing their creativity and imagination. The children also loved listening to “The Gruffalo”, and enjoyed making their own delicious Gruffalo crumble! They then used their imaginations to bring the stories to life, working together to act out the different characters and events. These activities encouraged the children’s communication and language skills, creativity, confidence and ability to work cooperatively with their friends.
Our little autumn artists
In the Toddler Room, we have been exploring the wonderful colours of autumn through creative play. Taking advantage of the autumnal sunshine, we enjoyed experimenting with colour-mixing outdoors, discovering what happens when different colours come together. Back inside, the children continued their exploration using a variety of objects and materials to create their own unique artwork. From mark-making and painting, to experimenting with different textures, our little artists have been busy expressing their creativity and discovering the magic of colour!

Little hearts, big healthy starts
In celebration of World Heart Day, our babies have been exploring a variety of fun activities that promote physical health and wellbeing. Through these experiences, the babies have been developing and practising different motor skills that help to keep our bodies strong and healthy.
The babies particularly enjoyed experimenting with playdough, using both their fine and gross motor skills to roll, squash, pinch and squeeze the playdough. These simple movements provided wonderful opportunities to strengthen their little hands and fingers while developing coordination, control and dexterity. After having lots of fun exploring, we took a little break to have a healthy snack and rehydrate! It was lovely to see our babies exploring, learning and having fun while discovering the importance of keeping our bodies active and healthy! ❤️
