Fun in the Sun at Kingswood!

Here at Kingswood, we have been having so much fun out and about in the community. We love to take the children for walks and explore the nature we have around us. The Pre-schoolers enjoy hunting for natural resources like pebbles, twigs and leaves, that they can then bring back into the setting, and use in their play. They utilise them in all kinds of ways; for creative picture-making, or using a twig as a stirrer in the water, for example. We love to use all types of loose parts for multiple purposes!

Sun Safety
As you can see, we have been having lots of fun outside recently. The weather has been beautiful, but with that also comes risks. We have been making sure to teach the children about making sure that they are being safe in the sun. We focus on aspects such as applying sunscreen, wearing hats, having shade breaks, and making sure we are having plenty of water to stay hydrated. We also use Makaton to help communicate this. A very useful website we use is https://www.makaton.org/

Butterflies

This month, in our Toddler and Pre-School rooms, we have been taking extra good care of our caterpillars. We watched them cocoon, and develop into beautiful butterflies. We then let them fly free into the great outdoors!
Graduation Photos

May brought our lovely Saul Isaac photographer back into the setting, to take graduation photos of the children that will be leaving to go to school. Here you can see an example of them. This term is where we really focus on school readiness, and making sure that they are ready to take on the next step of their journey. Things to think about, at home too, to prepare them, are independence in processes like toileting, dressing, and also having the confidence to successfully separate from their grown ups.
Pride of Yorkshire
This month we also found out where our Lion Cub was to be placed. Our cub can be found in Blundells at Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre. We managed to raise a great £2000 for this amazing charity. Check it out on https://prideofyorkshire.org/
