During December at Riverview, we have enjoyed lots of festive and winter fun. We have loved sharing these experiences with our families and friends.
Festive fun!
Christmas concert
Our Pre-School children loved learning some new songs, and Makaton signs, in preparation for our Christmas concert. We welcomed in lots of our families and had a great turn out! We could not be prouder of our Pre-School children and how confident they were when singing to their families.
Parent workshop
We loved sharing lots of messy, sticky, fun activities with our grown-ups at our Christmas workshop. From ‘baking’ in the playdough kitchen, to making our own biscuits to enjoy with our hot chocolate, to making our own calendars for 2025 – we loved sharing these experiences with our friends and families.
12 days of Christmas
Our children loved getting into the festive sprit; we enjoyed celebrating the 12 days before Christmas by assigning a different activity to each of them. We talked a lot about our families and how we celebrate, we also discussed other festivals and celebrations we celebrate with our families. We thought about how we can help one another, and what we could do to help others; some children spoke about donating toys to charity shops before Christmas. We then decided to do a bake sale to raise money in order to buy food to donate to a food bank in the New Year.
Exploring our local area and shopping
Our Baby Room children really enjoyed exploring the local area, and shopping for the ingredients we needed to bake for our sale. They talked about road safety and looked at the traffic passing by, they then talked about where to cross at a safe place. Once in the shops, they looked for the ingredients we needed to bake our buns, remembering to look at the labels for the healthiest option and allergens. On the way out of the shops, they donated a few small items into the food bank box, this is where the bake sale donations will go.
Christmas dinner and party
Our children enjoyed having Christmas dinner together; they sat down together with the staff and talked about what they enjoy eating at home, and who they have mealtimes with. They all spoke about the different food groups, and what our bodies need to be healthy and be energised.
Visit from Santa
The children showed lots of excitement when we had an early surprise visit from Santa! They all sat really well and waited their turn to receive a gift from Santa. Once he had left, we talked about where he lives, we spoke about who had been away, and where. The children loved sharing their experiences of travel; where they had been, and who they have been with.
Winter crafts and tales
We enjoyed lots of winter-themed crafts and tales. Once we had finished getting messy, the children decided to sit down all together and enjoy some more of their stories under a big blanket, whilst enjoying a hot chocolate. They shared stories with one another and talked about how they were feeling. They also enjoyed talking about the weather, and if we would see any snow in the last few days of 2024. The seemed to like learning about the New Year and what the next year would be. Pre-School’s nursery council talked about what they would like to do and see when they returned back from the short break from nursery.
