We have been exploring lots of wet, messy and sticky play here at Riverview whilst exploring the summer weather!
Summer Activities at Riverview Day Nursery
Here at Riverview we have been enjoying lots of Summer fun! We have been exploring the world around us, making predictions and working as a team to achieve an end goal. We have spent lots of time learning about our bodies and how to keep them safe during the hot weather.
Loose parts, construction and outside exploring
We have been exploring our large loose parts and construction areas, we have been building as a team to see what new and fun obstacles we can create together.
Pre-School large loose parts exploring
Our Pre-School children have been exploring a variety of loose parts and using their imagination to create a water slide, a roller coaster and a waterfall. The children worked together and demonstrated great teamwork and co-operation while building with the loose parts. The children worked together to lift up the guttering on the frame and when it was complete they began to test their ideas by sending down some cars.
Toddlers’ outside activities
Toddlers have been enjoying the sunshine in the garden! They’ve been building towers and walls in our tuff tray and creating our own cement using sand and shaving foam. We’ve also been making mud pies in our mud kitchen!
Babies’ outside activities
Our Babies have been showing a huge interest in our outdoor mud kitchen recently. They are really enjoying exploring the mud and water using many different resources. They have been using their imagination to create mud pies, heating them up on the hob and placing them in the oven. Lots of filling and emptying has taken place as well as great hand eye coordination when transporting the mud and water.
Healthy eating and baking
We love to explore baking and healthy eating, we have been talking all about ‘healthy me’ and how we can be healthy. The children had said they would like to bake and make their own pizzas… So we did just that!
Healthy pizza making ideas
Pre-School and Toddlers have made their own pizzas for tea! We talked about the different food groups and how to get our ‘Five A Day’! All the children talked about their favourite vegetables and what they would like to use on the pizzas. We explored the different textures and worked as a team to create our pizzas for tea.
Babies and baking
Our Babies have enjoyed doing some baking recently to celebrate chocolate week. They did excellent turn taking during each part of the process. They all then took turns at adding in some melted chocolate. We talked about having a balanced diet and looked at what a healthy balance diet looks like to us.
Sun safety and enjoying the sun
The weather has finally got warmer which means sun safety is even more important!!
We have been talking with all the children and showing them how we apply sun cream properly and why. Pre-School have been using their independence to put on their own sun cream, we have been making sure to wear our hats and remembering to drink lots and lots of water.
Celebrating the Euros
Pre-School made their own England flags to support the Lions in the Euros! We spoke about all the different countries that were participating and how special it would be for England to win since it’s the home of football. Pre-School really enjoyed talking about how they would celebrate with family and friends.
Our bodies
Pre-School have really enjoyed drawing themselves and their friends. Some of the children decided to draw around each other’s bodies. We extended this learning by talking about our different facial features and how everybody is beautiful in their own way!
Super Star Sports
Toddlers and Pre-School really enjoyed our visit from Super Star Sports. They enjoyed exploring new ways of moving and how to use different objects of equipment such as cones to run around.
