Although February is the shortest month of the year, there are still endless opportunities and activities to be had. With a month filled with love and wellbeing, here at Oak Valley Day Nursery we have been sharing the love over Valentine’s Day, showing random acts of kindness in our community, celebrating our wonderful apprentices, and hosting our ‘school readiness’ workshop for our Pre-School children.
School Readiness 🏫🚸
Being ‘school ready’ isn’t just about having the right shoe on the right foot, eating breakfast, and arriving on time. A huge part of school readiness is about a child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
Without knowing it, your child will already have many of these skills. For them to be able to integrate into school life, they will put into practice their skills around taking risks, asking questions, taking turns and vocalising choices.
Don’t worry if your child can’t do all of these just yet – it’s just a guide. After all, children start school with a wide range of experiences and abilities, and they will progress at their own pace through the school year.
Our Pre-School Room hosted a school readiness workshop for all the children and their parents/carers. We looked at, and tried on, school uniform for the local schools in our area. We looked at a wide range of activities to encourage school readiness, and the children even got to take a little goody bag home.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2025! ❤️🩹
Mental health is as important to a child’s safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including physical wellbeing, relationships, and their education.
As parents and carers, there are ways we can support our children to give them the best chance to stay mentally healthy.
Encouraging and guiding children to think about their own mental health and wellbeing are vital skills we can teach them from a young age.
This year Children’s Mental Health Week theme was “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself”. At Oak Valley Day Nursery, our Toddler Room have been talking about their emotions, what makes them happy and sad, and making their own emotion faces.

Feeling the love this Valentine’s Day 💕
Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on 14th February.
There was lots of love this Valentine’s Day at Oak Valley. In our Toddler Room the children enjoyed making biscuits for their loved ones. The children weighed out their own ingredients, mixing and decorating their biscuits for their special someone. ❤️

National Apprenticeship Week
National Apprenticeship week (NAW) is the biggest week in apprenticeships and skills calendar. It took place from 10th to 16th February 2025. The week brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships and skills to celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that they bring.
We showed our appreciation to our wonderful apprentices, and staff who have recently completed their qualifications at Oak Valley. WE THINK YOU’RE GREAT! 👏👏
Random Acts of Kindness Day 💐
Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day to celebrate and encourage random acts of kindness.
Our Pre-School children showed random acts of kindness by visiting local businesses in the community to give them pictures and flowers they had made to put a smile on their faces. Well done Pre-School! 💐
🐻❄️International Polar Bear Day🐻❄️
International Polar Bear Day is an annual event celebrated on 27th February, to coincide with the time period when polar bear mothers and cubs are sleeping in their dens, and to raise awareness about the conservation status of the polar bear.
Our Baby Room celebrated by creating their own interpretation of polar bears, using lots of glue and cotton wool. The children also looked at pictures of polar bears and talked about the soft white fur 🐻❄️
