March 2026 at Highgate

March has been a very busy month here at Highgate, with lots of special events to participate in.

World Book Day

World Book Day is such an exciting time for all of the children at nursery, they loved coming in dressed up for the day, whether that was in fancy dress or pyjamas. They had lots of fun exploring themed sensory trays , baking, and taking part in craft activities. All the children received a book voucher, enabling them to choose a book of their own from the shops to take home and read with their family. Books are very powerful for strengthening young children’s development; reading boosts brain development, improves language and vocabulary, and builds children’s imagination and creativity.

Superstar Sports & Rhythm Time

In March, the children in Rising 3s and Pre-School enjoyed a visit from Super Star Sports. They enjoyed exploring new ways to get their bodies moving, and exploring different equipment to create and complete obstacle courses. The children enjoyed racing and testing each other, and then observing the effects that this had on their bodies when their hearts began to beat fast. The Babies & Toddlers had a visit from Jess at Rhythm Time which was full of fun and excitement too!

Red Nose Day

On the 20th of March, we fundraised for Red Nose Day by wearing red clothing and hosting a bake sale! The children loved getting involved with the baking, looking at all of the ingredients, and talking about where they come from. We raised £40.00 for the Red Nose Day charity – thank you to all of our staff, parents and carers for their donations.

Pre-School Visit to Church

On the 26th of March, Pre-School had a visit to Handsworth Church to listen to the story of Palm Sunday and Easter. The open book group made large props to go alongside the story being read, which all of the children loved. All children received a small palm to take home that the team had made for them to wave during the story. The children sang the song they had learnt about Jesus and his friends all the way back to nursery. Thank you once again to the team at Handsworth Methodist Church.

World Bear Day

To raise awareness for World Bear Day, all children were invited to bring in their own bear to nursery to host a teddy bears picnic. Each room had bear-themed tuff trays and activities set up for the children to learn about the different species of bears, where they are from, and their habitats. The Pre-School children used various materials to create their own habitats for the bears, and the children from Rising 3s looked closer into the life of a polar bear and the foods that they eat.

Eid UL-FITAR

To celebrate Eid, the children in Pre-School made their own mosques using junk modelling & loose parts. This allowed children to construct and experiment with their own materials. The children in Rising 3s made cards to take home, experimenting with different shapes and creating their own henna art crafts. We had some parents and staff fasting, so we talked about why this was important to them. We would also like to wish all those celebrating Eid a happy Eid Mubarak. The staff received a treat of halal sweets to celebrate too!
